Year 5 & 6 Dance

Dance and Drama Challenge programmes are run by Alan Brandt (Associate Principal).

Our Term 2 Year 5 & 6 Challenge Dance Programme began with an audition for all interested Year 5 & 6 children. 16 were chosen from the 56 children that auditioned.

This will culminate in a performance using what the children have learned (to be performed at the end of year 'Performing Arts Evening'). The context for this performance will be based on 'Native American Indian' culture which relates to the Term 2 Thematic Topic for the School 'Around the World'.

CITIES AROUND THE WORLD COMPETITION

Auckland City - Some of our thoughts...

By Year 5 Artists

Auckland is a small city in Northern New Zealand with approximately 1.4 to 1.5 million people. It may be small but yet it’s very big on the environment!

Auckland has many beaches dotted around the place. Aucklanders love to go swimming and play on the beaches with their families. Most people in Auckland are not far from a beach.

Auckland also has lots of parks. We love the outdoors and having barbeques in Summer! Our city is a very clean, green, city. We all care for the environment and everywhere you look you can see trees and plants. Everybody in Auckland is getting better at recycling their cans and bottles!

The Harbour Bridge and the Sky Tower are but two of our main ‘man-made’ landmarks. Auckland city has many volcanic cones which are good for hiking and the views are worth the walk!

Auckland is also known as the ‘City of Sails’ because of all the boats that Aucklanders have and sail on the harbour.

Because we have a traffic problem in Auckland, we think that Auckland needs to have more public transport like trains and buses, as well as looking at different ways to power transport and our city.

We hope that in the future we have worked out a way to re-use rubbish as fuel for cars with environmentally friendly exhaust fumes!

MURAL - New Zealand Theme

A group of Year 5 students has begun producing a large mural to be mounted on a wall in the school (the location is still to be decided). We have recycled an old school chalkboard as the canvas. The theme for the mural is 'New Zealand Flora and Fauna' for which the students will individually draw and then compose a cooperative artwork.

When the Year 5 group has completed their third of the mural, another group will be selected to continue the next section until the mural is complete.
